Old Forge, NY aka the tourist town that tourists forgot

So, we spent the weekend in Old Forge, NY. A breezy 5 1/2 hour drive from Boston and we were in town for Mary's wedding. Old Forge seemed like a deserted ghost town. Nary a tourist in sight. Perhaps school isn't out in NY yet, but we were surprised at how empty things were.

We checked in to the Waters Edge Inn where our water view was ruined by Mary's wedding tent! Just kidding. I mean our view was blocked, but we were happy to be sharing in Mary's day and didn't really care. We got to run up and see Mary and Chad quick before the rehearsal dinner and then we were off to dinner at the Knotty Pine. Yummy! We spent the rest of the night watching tv and relaxing in bed. Unfortunately I waited a little too long to book our room so we had to settle on a room with 2 full beds. Paul desperately wanted us to share a bed, but as we snuggled (we really had no choice in that matter the bed was so small) I politely asked him to sleep in the other bed...best decision ever! We both slept so good! There was no way we would've had a good night sleep if we had tried to share that tiny ass bed with our huge behinds.

Saturday we woke up and had breakfast at Keyes Pancake House. Nothing spectacular there. We went back to the hotel and changed into our bathingsuits for a day of fun at Enchanted Forest Water Safari...apparently the largest water park in NY. Neither of us had been to a water park in so long we had forgotten how much fun it was! It was a gorgeous day and we went on a bunch of rides and lazed around the lazy river (of which there were 2). We went back to the hotel, a brief nap, and a shower later and we were ready for Mary's wedding. Mary was a beautiful bride and both her and Chad looked radiantly happy. Everyone had a great time dancing the night away. Even a little rain, thunder, and lightening didn't dampen the party. We even sat at the wedding with another couple who had just moved to Boston.

Today was spent driving back to MA. I am so exhausted! It will be an early bedtime tonight for sure. But a great weekend!

It's a nice day for a trashy wedding

Friday night started with happy hour (well, in most other states it'd be happy hour with drink specials like 2 for 1, MA apparently feels its residents are not smart enough to handle the 2 for 1 drinks and thus happy hour as we know it is illegal here--WTF!!!!) followed by dinner with Jessica and Matt at the Tewksbury Country Club. Now before you go thinking we done won the lottery or something, what with our fancy dining at the country club (imagine I'm saying this with a southern accent--funny, right????) it's a public club and actually really reasonable in terms of price.

It's so reasonable in price that we saw what may have been THE trashiest wedding ever. The bride...beautiful so we had high expectations. Her bridal party and friends....oh my. Stacy and Clinton would have had a FIELD DAY at this reception.

We saw 2 bridesmaids sharing a cigarette as they waited to have their pictures taken. A guest wearing jeans (if you go to a wedding reception at a country club then don't wear jeans). And the icing on the cake...Snookie from Jersey Shore was there! Okay, not the real Snookie but a Snookie wannabe. Picture the black hair, the obscenely disgusting tan (remember Dayglo?), a strapless, black mini dress WITH HER TAN BRA HANGING OUT INCLUDING THE STRAPS OVER HER SHOULDERS. It was even better when she saw someone she knew eating dinner by us, screamed the girl's name, and ran over to hug her. Yeah, someone caught an STD for sure that night...thanks Snooks! And everyone smoked! It was like eating dinner next to a tobacco farm.

But my 10,000 calorie with 85 fat grams lobster mac & cheese was delicious and, I like to believe, worth the 5lbs I gained from dinner. I really have no reason for wondering why I'm such a fatty. I'd be embarrassed to keep a food diary.

In other news....I'd really like to be a Housewife of NJ. I'm pretty sure they have overtaken the OC as my fave housewives. Except Danielle. I think she's a wackjob as evidenced by the comment I left on her blog (I'm such a loser, I know, you don't even have to say it).

It's almost time to go to bed. I had a stressful day of tv watching yesterday and didn't sleep very well last night.

The Boston Massacre of 2010 aka the great bunny massacre

Memorial Day weekend started with a bang...well, actually with cheesecake. Dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. I think their strawberry martinis are about heaven on earth and after 2 of them I was nice and relaxed and ready for an early bedtime.

Saturday we woke up to a gorgeous day. After trying the Route 38 Diner (not as good as Vic's although they did have giant pothos with the whole ceiling covered with vines from these 3 plants in small pots) a trip to Home Depot was in order. We just went for a couple things....$1500 later...we were the proud owners of a new stackable washer/dryer as well as tons of new plants.

I came home to mow the lawn which I really enjoy usually...today I'm going along having a grand ole time when I look down to see a baby bunny...I had run over a baby bunny! Of course its suffering and I run into the house to get Paul. I'm hysterical crying so he thinks I've run over one of the dogs with the lawnmower. He comes out and I cannot stop crying! He takes care of the poor baby bunny and I resume my grass cutting. I look over to see him digging another hole. He had found another deceased baby bunny. This one I had nothing to do with. And then I found a 3rd dead baby bunny. The only thing we can figure is that a rabbit had babies within our fenced yard and one of our murderous dogs found them. I then worked in my garden and planted some flowers.

Saturday night we went to a friend's fundraiser dinner/dance. So much fun. Our friend Tonya got wasted (hilarious) and allowed the Maine out of her. There was a silent auction and we learned someone at to check his bid every 5 minutes to make sure no one outbid him. I'll give you one guess as to who you think it is.

Sunday morning we had planned on sleeping in as we had been up very late on Saturday, but I was up by 10:30am. I laid out in the yard and my legs saw the sun for the first time in years (yay for being done with Ideal Image FINALLY!). I only stayed out for 30 minutes though cause I didn't want to get burned. Sunday night we had some friends over for a cookout (and so they could help Paul unload and bring in the new washer/dryer). Board games and Wii rounded out the night (helped along by cocktails). Despite my use of bugspray that we bought in Belize I ended up covered in mosquito bites. Guess I'm just that sweet.

Monday was the Tewksbury Memorial Day parade. I decided it would be fun for Paul and I to walk down to Main St. with Sasha and Jojo. The walk one way is 1.5 miles. We get there about 30 minutes early and find a good spot in the shade. Thankfully we decided to bring chairs with us (yes, we walked a round trip of 3 miles with chairs strapped to our backs). The icecream was parked not too far from where we were sitting so I went to get us all icecream (even Sasha and Jojo). The parade started and we were thinking it'd be 30 to 45 minutes max. WRONG! 90 minutes later and the parade was finally over. Jojo seemed bored by the entire parade, but Sasha was terrified. At one point she tried to run away. She does not like gunfire, sirens, or truck horns. This was the most random parade, but so fun. There were 3 high school marching bands, 2 bagpipe bands, tons of clowns, about 20 different boy scout and girl scout trooops, random semi trucks, old tractors, about 35 old cars...on and on and on. The walk back was a little rough and Paul had to carry Jojo at one point. All in all we were impressed with our small town pride and our town's spirit.

And then Tuesday was back to work. We should have 4 day work weeks every week! It's so nice that tomorrow is Thursday already!
